Phase A.8: Snap-back and Ramp
|
Description:
One can envisage first ramp attempts once the preliminary optimization of the machine at 450 GeV
has been done. Initial attempts would be to a much reduced maximum energy (1 TeV say) enabling us to factor out the problems of machine protection that come with the move to higher energies. The key steps would then be:
- Single beam through snapback, checking the key instrumentation and control of the key beam parameters: orbit, tune, coupling, chromaticity.
- Stopping in ramp and then pushing on in steps would allow one to commission beam dump and machine protection
along the ramp. Beam based checks would also be possible at these intermediate energies.
- Culminating in a single beam to 7 TeV, ring 1.
- Repeat the process for the other beam.
- Repeat the process with both beams at the
same time.
