Defintion of tolerance tables for (1) orbit, (2) beta-beat, (3) coupling, (4) global machine aperture [Work in progress].
-
Prioritized list of aperture bottlenecks for local aperture scans to be specified.
-
Strategy to commission alternative methods to measure the aperture in case we cannot measure it with the required accuracy with the proposed methods (kicks or closed-orbit bumps).
-
The set-up of a sub-system of the collimator system in preparation for the energy ramp is left in this phase only in view of the commissioning of the ramp without commissioning of higher beam intensities. The serious set-up of protection/cleaning takes place in A.5.
-
Detailed injection failure studies are moved to A.5 as well.
-
Is it realistic to envisage early on the commissioning of the AC dipole? This does not seem to be the case however it should be used for the measurements at 7TeV (Phase A.9). Hardware should be available by December 2007.
-
How do we blow-up the emittance for aperture measurements, if needed? Consecutive kicks of the beam clearly can work. Do we need more sophisticated/controlled method.
-
Procedure for detailed injection matching is missing in the procedures.
Dispersion matching will be possible during the first year of operation however the betatron matching will only be possible starting from 2009: the required matching monitors are not foreseen to be available in 2008.

Transfer function measurements for D1/D2 dipoles has been removed from this Phase. The LHCCWG agreed that detailed measurements should be done only if there are problems during the squeeze.
